Saint Francis of Assisi is a Roman Catholic Parish. The word Catholic
means there is room for everyone
. Moreover, the word Catholic
challenges us to learn how to become brothers and sisters to one another and to be a multi-cultural community where we are enriched by a great variety of customs, tastes, sounds, colors, abilities, and needs.
Presently, St. Francis of Assisi Church is home for English-speaking Catholics and Spanish-speaking Catholics. We are learning how to be a parish that is truly inclusive and Catholic. May our parish be a meeting place for people of all races and cultures so that we may share in something more than a building: lives built on faith in Christ Jesus.
The parish of St. Francis of Assisi exists solely to incarnate the mission and message of the risen Lord, Jesus Christ. By nurturing ourselves on the Gospel of Christ, by the celebration of Christ's sacraments, by caring for one another, especially for the least of our brothers and sisters, and by holiness of life, we hope to know the living God and to spread knowledge of Him to all the world.
As you may have heard or read, Pope Francis has called for an Extraordinary Synod of Bishops next October on the theme: "Pastoral Challenges of the Family in the context of Evangelization". The Holy Father has directed Bishops of Dioceses around the world to gather input from parishes and deaneries as broadly and quickly as possible. The Vatican has produced a document with survey questions
that can be used to address their various areas of concern. It is not necessary to answer all the questions.
Our responses must be in to Norwich by December 12, therefore the St. Pius X Pastoral Council will host and facilitate a gathering on Tuesday, December 3 at 7:30 PM in the Bill Fortin Memorial Hall to select and discuss certain areas of the survey. The results will be forwarded to the Bishop's Office.
• The survey can be downloaded as a PDF file.
• The survey may also be taken on-line at: papalsurvey.com or SurveyMonkey
• A limited number of copies of the survey will be available in the back of church.
• Individual responses may be made to the Office of the Bishop of Norwich if desired.
• We encourage as broad a consultation as possible, so that those most directly affected will voice their concerns.
We encourage you to participate in this historic process as fully as possible. Pope Francis has a pastoral heart and is reaching out to many people whose life situation has challenged their full participation in the life of the Church.
